Camera Body vs Lens: How to Sell a Complete Used Camera Kit

Introduction

A camera sold with one or more lenses is really a collection of individual pieces of equipment. The body and each lens have their own model, condition and market demand. Describing them separately makes a used-camera selling enquiry much easier to evaluate.

Identify Every Item

Start with the camera body model and then write down every lens separately. For example: Canon EOS 1500D, Canon EF-S 18-55mm and Canon EF-S 55-250mm. If you have a third-party lens, include its brand and exact model.

Check the Lens Separately

Check front and rear glass, autofocus, focus ring, zoom ring, mount and visible signs of fungus or haze. Two lenses with similar focal lengths can still be different products, so use the exact name printed on the barrel.

Check the Camera Body

Test power, shutter, autofocus, screen, buttons, dials, memory-card slot, ports and video recording where applicable. Note major scratches, dents, grip wear or cracks. If the camera has a known fault, include it in the enquiry.

Should You Sell the Kit Together?

It depends on what you are keeping. If the body and lens are both unused, you can enquire about the complete kit. If you are keeping one lens, remove it from the sale and identify only the equipment you want to sell. Multiple lenses can also be discussed individually.

Photos to Send

Take a full-kit photograph first, then separate photographs of the body and every lens. Show the front glass, rear mount and model markings on lenses. For the camera, show front, back, top, bottom and screen. Photograph visible defects honestly.

Frequently Asked Questions
